Imperfections like cracks in your teeth, chips or discoloration  can take away from an otherwise confident smile. Luckily, you don’t have to live with your imperfections thanks to porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneers can give you a confident smile in a short amount of time. Although most people will be a great candidate for porcelain veneers, there are a few qualities that can make a candidate less than ideal for porcelain veneers. Today, Dr. Joe Griffin is blogging from his practice in Florence, SC to explain the qualities a candidate should and shouldn’t have in order to get porcelain veneers.

Ideal Qualities for a Porcelain Veneer Candidate

Porcelain Veneers are porcelain shells that are placed in front of teeth and are held to the teeth with dental cement. Veneers are great options for patients because it covers any imperfection like chips or cracks while adding to tooth strength with an additional form of protection. The veneer process is also relatively simple. Patients will first come in to have a small layer of enamel removed and have their impressions taken. Two weeks later, your porcelain veneers will be ready and you’ll be walking out of our office with a beautiful smile. Nearly anyone can benefit from porcelain veneers but here are a few characteristics that are ideal for patients who want porcelain veneers.

  • Proper bite alignment
  • No gum disease
  • Do not suffer from bruxism
  • No tooth decay
  • Enough tooth enamel
  • Fully grown teeth

Porcelain veneers are meant to fix teeth aesthetically, so any problems with the health of your teeth will not be fixed by veneers, and it may disqualify you from getting veneers. We always recommend meeting with us to determine if porcelain veneers are right for your specific case. If you are determined to be a good candidate any of the following problems can be fixed with porcelain veneers:

  • Mild misalignment
  • Discoloration
  • Gaps
  • Chips and cracks
  • Teeth misshapened
