Our skilled staff is always more than happy to answer any and all questions you and the rest of our patients might come up with. However, due to the frequency with which we hear many of the same questions, the Advanced Dental Center of Florence has decided to put together a list of frequently asked questions. We hope this list might better assist you in finding the answers to any concerns you might have about the general nature of veneers.
Does the Application of Veneers Hurt?
No. In fact, occasionally the application of a porcelain veneer may not even require the use of a local anesthetic. However, this is completely dependent on the patient. For those patients who are anxious or particularly sensitive a local anesthetic may be administered during the preparation for a porcelain veneer. Here at the Advanced Dental Center of Florence our main concern is your absolute comfort, so we will do everything we can to ensure you are at ease throughout every step of the process. In short, the answer to this question is no. Our talented dentists will make sure you feel no pain at all.
How Long Will It Take for My Custom Porcelain Veneers to Be Made?
This answer depends on the technicians at the laboratory where your veneers are going to be fabricated. Generally speaking, you will only have to wait one to two weeks from the day of your first appointment to the day you finally have the smile you’ve always dreamt of.
How Will My Teeth Feel After the Placement of My Veneers?
Due to the removal of a small portion of enamel which is necessary for the placement of veneers, you can expect to feel some minor sensitivity to hot and cold temperatures. However, this sensitivity should disappear within a couple of days and your teeth will be back to feeling normal in no time at all.
Will My Veneers Be Strong and Durable?
Yes. Porcelain veneers are very durable and will withstand the stress you put on them with the chewing and biting actions required in a normal diet. However, porcelain veneers are made of ceramic and ceramic is a type of glass. While glass is strong, it can be chipped. For this reason, we do not suggest you do things like crack open pistachio nuts with your teeth or chew on ice one your porcelain veneers have been placed. Though, in all truth, you should not do these things with your natural teeth either. The bottom line is that common sense will provide the best results when looking to ensure the longevity of your veneers.
How Do I Take Care of My Veneers?
This question is always easy to answer because it is so simple. Brushing twice a day and flossing are two of the best ways to take care of your veneers. Good oral hygiene is imperative to the continued care of your veneers. In addition, as stated above, avoiding biting down on hard things like the shells of nuts, hard candied apples, or opening things with your teeth is not recommended. Doing these things can chip or crack your veneers. Then again, doing these things can crack or chip normal teeth as well. In conclusion, the best way to take care of your veneers is to treat them like normal teeth, but make sure oral hygiene is kept consistent and consideration is made before biting down on hard substances.
